The History
The Museum of Customs and Traditions of the Romagna people was inaugurated in 1981 after 20 years of work, both of research and of collection, in the same territory. The first collection has been set in the premises of the ex- town slaughterhouse, a building of the 20s rebuilt for the purpose. In 1985 came to life the CERD, the Ethnographical Centre for the Research and Documentation and it was set up a systematic activity of research and documentary production. A further step in the growing of the museum, after 5 years, is the planning of a project of museum didactics consisting in courses of updating for teachers, permanent labs for the didactics and school/museum labs for pupils: Since 1994 the Museum of Santarcangelo has entered the web of NET, the network of European etnographical Musei.
The Visit of the Museum
The museum, whose purpose is to display objects and communicate ideas, allows different levels of deepening: a general level, that is an obliged track through the different thematic sections and that gives general information on the traditional habits of Romagna; a didactic level, that gives information on every section visited(to be noticed the presence of a didactic laboratory inside and an outside laboratory that permits to make experiments of cultivation); a level of deepening that offers further information to those who want to take up research works, through panels and points of detailed technical information placed along the track (for some problematic matters it is advisable to consult the archives of the CERD).All the levels finally allow to contextualize the material into the patrimony of habits and rites, of symbolic actions of the territory itself. |
