One of the main attractions is undoubtedly the very fine sand beach and the sun that accompanies it from dawn till dusk. The coastline, though only three kilometres long, offers long and healthy morning walks, and is testimony to the public administration’s and the local operators’ efforts in paying particular attention to render the visitors’ stay pleasant, cheerful and safe. Orderly forests of colourful beach umbrellas and chairs, avant-garde services: from life guards to first aid and medical assistance, specially equipped to promptly respond to any kind of upleasant emergency.

Unusual and interesting sites to fish or to sunbathe, like piers and breakwater rocks, which for decades have been necessary to safeguard the coastline from marine erosion. For lovers of trips in the open sea or along the coast, then, Motor-boats sail daily from Misano centre and Portoverde piers. Off-shore fishing and sailing have their naturally equipped cradle in the town’s harbour: Portoverde is definitely the best equipped touristic harbour in the Adriatic; it offers every kind of service and structure which makes it a first-class residential complex. The archeological finds that have been discovered throughout the years prove without a doubt that Misano is of Roman origin. The name, Misano, according to the most reliable historical research, derives from one of the many families that moved from Lazio to the area of Rimini (ager ariminensis) in the third century B.C.

Their name would have been “Gens Mesia”, and, for their military merits, they were awarded many acres of land in our area. For over two centuries, from 1295 to 1528, Misano was ruled by the Malatesta family, who built a castle there, the remains of which are now unfortunately limited only to the entry arch and part of the tower. Once the Malatesta dynasty came to an end, Romagna, and therefore Misano, were made part of the Papal State, whose jurisdiction lasted almost uninterruptedly until the unification of Italy.
