Idyllically set on the top of Mount Titano, which overlooks the whole Riviera Romagnola, San Marino is the oldest republic in the world. Its three majestic towers dominate the underlying territory and boast breathtaking views over both the sea, from Ravenna up to Venice, and the mountains.
San Marino is an open-air museum, since it is rich in history, mystery and appeal. Founded 1700 years ago by a local hermit, it is an outstanding combination of past glory and present fascination.
Mount Titano is topped by three impressive fortifications, Cesta, Guaita and Montale, the former two ones being open to the general public. The ancient medieval village is dominated by the majestic Palazzo Pubblico, whose prestigious nineteenth-century halls are home to the meetings of the oldest democratic parliament in the world. Since July 2010, San Marino has hosted an important jazz festival. The special guest stars of the last edition were Hornette Coleman and the Yellow Jackets.
Since 2009, it has hosted the popular “Alba sul monte” food and wine festival, which is characterized by amazing shows and concerts and fantastic gastronomic events.
